Who you are

You are a seasoned HR professional with deep knowledge of leadership best practices, and a proven ability to develop trusting and transparent relationships, including relationships with senior executive leaders. You can assess and anticipate HR-related needs and communicate those needs proactively.

What you will do

The Human Resources Business Partner (“HRBP”) acts as a strategic partner, active member, and advisor for the Gradient Wind Engineering leadership team. You will work closely with senior management (the principals) keeping them informed of employee relations and escalating any risks or policy concerns on a regular basis. You will develop and provide support in the execution of a People Services (PS) strategy, ensuring the day-to-day operations are in alignment with that strategy.

You will be responsible for building high trust and impactful relationships with employees and leaders at all levels. You will put into action your knowledge of human resources functions to develop, implement, and support HR initiatives across the company to increase organizational effectiveness and positively impact business results. You will help foster a culture of respect, trust, and openness where opinions are encouraged and valued.

You will use sound judgement, people acumen, and practical experience to help develop, engage, and retain employees and encourage creativity. You will work to deliver and support a wide range of employment-related matters including recruitment, compensation, performance management, coaching, employee relations, retention, health & safety, and development/interpretation of employment policies and practices.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Works closely with management (the principals) proactively making recommendations on evolving best practices, specifically with regards to policy application, employee relations, conflict management, and day to day performance management coaching with leaders
  • Understands business goals and recommends thoughtful new approaches, policies, and procedures to affect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity, and development of HR within the company
  • Develops and implements a People Services strategy, regularly working with management to identify trends that may impact strategy, operations, or required policy evolution
  • Builds and fosters positive, trusting relationships with staff, enhancing their own understanding of the business in which they support, and leveraging this knowledge to propose the most appropriate people solutions
  • Fosters employee engagement, their emotional commitment to the organization and its goals
  • Proactively implements People Services programs and processes. Advises and supports employees on corporate policies, programs, and procedures
  • Supports and provides input into headcount/growth planning, talent management and succession planning
  • Applies strategic focus and works closely with leaders on organizational design efforts
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management and staff (including coaching, counseling, career development)
  • Identifies and engages high potential talent and collaborates on development plans to increase their organizational impact
  • Cultivates a positive experience for employees throughout the employee life cycle; embeds, executes, and lives the principles of change leadership

What you bring

6-8 years of experience in general HR management and/or a business partner role where you’ve developed and honed:

  • Proven ability in strategic thinking
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid business acumen - proven ability to diagnose problems and identify and drive appropriate solutions
  • Proven ability to liaise with senior leaders; strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Solid change leadership skillset; able to influence and persuade people thoughtfully and tactfully
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Out of the box thinker – innovative!
  • Collaborative and approachable team player; coaching approach
  • Work independently, take initiative, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Multi-task, be flexible, and move from one priority to another while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policies
  • Demonstrated background of developing initiatives and programs from the ground up

Your desire for continuous learning is reflected by:

  • University degree or equivalent post-secondary education with extensive relevant experience
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is preferred
  • Technically proficient (MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems, and comfortable learning new technology systems as needed
  • Certified in personal assessment tools (i.e., DISC, MBTI, True Colours, etc.) is an asset
