Get to know our President, Todd Luckasavitch! Todd is one of the reasons BSG is such an amazing place to work so we wanted to share his story (you can also read his corporate bio here).
Why BSG?
Why did you choose BSG? Tell the story about why they chose/enjoy working with BSG?
After more than 20 years working for large, global corporations I was looking for a change and hoping to find an opportunity where I could work with smaller/midsize organizations and business owners and support building their businesses.
I started consulting in the talent management and HR space and connected with Margo Crawford, the CEO of BSG, who I had known from the past. I started working with Margo on building a strong talent management and acquisition practice at BSG and we were extremely successful. We kept growing, having a lot of fun doing it, and building an amazing team. I joined full-time after a year, and now as the President. I wouldn’t want to do or work anywhere else.
Typical Day
What do you do during a typical day? Is there something about your work that you enjoy the most?
My role is interesting because it is a real mix of business management and business development. I have internal meetings daily to maintain an eye on the business and keep connected with the team, financials, delivery to the clients, etc. I also meet with potential clients daily either to provide them information on our solutions and how we can support their business or organization as well with current clients to ensure their requirements are being met and we are making a positive impact.
Leadership Style
How do you keep you/your team motivated during these unprecedented times (COVID-19)?
It is a very unique challenge. I have managed many teams, small and large over the last 20+ years, but the environment and business/economic changes created by the pandemic are new to everyone. It really isn’t like you can learn from the experience of others or read a book to tell you how to do it.
A lot of the continued motivation comes from the team. Despite the challenges of the last year, our team has remained energetic and engaged and because of that we are extremely fortunate as we have been able to continue to grow our business, despite all that is going on around us. We still have fun but obviously it is different.
We also recognize that the notion of ”Covid fatigue” is real. I understand that we need to support employees during those times where they need to step back and catch their breath or simply need to connect and not discuss business. We have had some wonderful new people join the team as well over the last year and while we have enjoyed getting to know them and benefitting from their contributions, both to the business and to the social dynamics of the team, I am REALLY looking forward to meeting them in person soon.
Future Goals
What are your future goals (for either yourself or for our SME clients)?
Small and midsized organizations and businesses lead Canadian economic growth and employment. As a part of Business Sherpa Group, I want to continue working toward supporting that growth, providing HR, Finance and Recruitment solutions through a combination of technology and expertise ensuring they are reaching their peak performance and focused on achieving their vision.
